16 False Myths Your Parents Told You

Throughout our upbringing, our parents have imparted a great deal of information to us, ranging from erroneous beliefs to factual truths. I have compiled a list of 16 false myths that parents may have shared with us during our formative years. Please note that not all parents will have communicated all of these myths, but I have found them to be quite intriguing.

16 False Myths

  1. That turning on the lights in a car while driving is illegal.
  2. Consuming watermelon seeds will result in the growth of a watermelon in one’s stomach.
  3. That obtaining ANY college degree would automatically result in a secure job, and that it was the sole path to employment.
  4. Gum takes seven years to digest.
  5. All individuals one encounters on the internet are either fraudsters or serial killers.
  6. If I cross my eyes, they might end up staying like that.
  7. If you sit too close to the TV, you will go blind.
  8. No Swimming until an hour after eating.
  9. The 5 second rule in regards to food.
  10. Sit up straight, slouching is bad for you.
  11. Sugar makes kids hyper.
  12. Cracking your knuckles leads to arthritis.
  13. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
  14. If you sneeze with your eyes open, they’ll pop out.
  15. You will never get a real job if you have tattoo’s.
  16. That if you picked a dandelion, you would wet the bed.
