The Ultimate Short Haul Travel Essentials

Are you searching for the must-have carry-on items for your next flight? Look no further! We’ve got you covered with these essentials that will enhance your comfort and productivity during the journey. As a general rule, we try to pack as light as possible and avoid checking in a bag whenever we can. Here are the items that we always keep within reach during a flight.

Bagpack

While we don’t want to accumulate too many possessions, we do have a particular interest in backpacks and enjoy collecting and comparing them. After all, how else are we going to transport our carry-on essentials?

Noise Cancelling Headphones

Boarding a flight can be a bit of a gamble, but noise-canceling headphones are a must-have for listening to music, watching movies, or simply tuning out the noise around you. Despite being seasoned travelers, we still worry about seating arrangements. Will we be seated next to a crying baby or a restless child who constantly kicks our chair?

Phone and Wallet

While it may seem obvious since many of us are constantly glued to our phones, here are a few things we recommend preparing on your phone before a trip.

  • One of the essential things to do before a trip is to back up your phone, particularly your photos and videos, as a precautionary measure in case of any unforeseen circumstances.
  • It’s important to have easy access to your tickets and itinerary during your trip. While airline apps can sometimes be unreliable, taking a screenshot of your tickets and itinerary can be a good backup option.
  • We recommend using a music streaming service like Spotify to download your favorite playlists before your trip. This way, you can listen to your favorite tunes even without an internet connection. If you’re on a tight budget, you can activate your subscription only before big trips to save money.
  • As I prefer not to rely on in-flight Wi-Fi, I tend to spend a lot of time reading during a flight. I do enjoy flipping through the pages of a physical book.
  • If you have any shows or movies you’ve been wanting to watch, make sure to download them ahead of time so you can watch them offline during your flight.
  • Offline maps can be a lifesaver when you’re in an unfamiliar place without access to the internet. With offline maps, you can still navigate and find your way around even if you don’t have a data connection. There are many apps available that allow you to download maps for offline use, such as Google Maps, Maps.me, and Citymapper. Just make sure to download the maps before you leave, so you don’t get caught without them.

Water Bottle

I’d like to clarify that you can bring an empty water bottle through security and then fill it up at a water fountain once you’re through. This way, you won’t have to purchase an expensive water bottle at the airport and can stay hydrated throughout your flight. It’s a great way to save money and reduce plastic waste!

Portable Charger

I understand the concern of a dying phone battery while traveling, and even with USB plugins on planes, they can be slow and unable to keep up with phone usage.
